Sydneys most ambitious producer Waza has resurfaced with a brand new LP, spanning a diverse range of genres and sounds. It is Waza's most explorative release yet and engages the help of several talented MCs and vocalists, each contributing their own brand to his music.

Arrival, as the name suggests, Arrival sets the scene and introduces the album with a bang! Soft notes turn heavy in a massive swell of a drop that radiates power and leaves nothing in its wake; the syncopated beats play tag with the whirling melody. The vibe is strong; Crooked Jaw is here.

Bad Teeth, featuring Sasha from Slumberhaze, ‘Bad Teeth’ features huge beats and driving distorted bass lines, all laced with arpeggiate synth madness, Sasha’s unique vocal is the cherry on top. Lyrically the song deals with prevailing issues of vanity in our society, and the expectations of what people should be and look like.

Pluto, funk arrives in force, a stumbling beat thats nicely swung plays right into the hands of the wub-wub bass line that features as the centrepiece of the track. Stoned on Mars, back to his hip-hop roots, an addictive, jazz piano riff couples with bombastic percussion and a deep sub synth which roars into the chorus. Featured MCs EaRelevant and State Advanced lay down a deep flow and cement the song with witty rhymes and energetic delivery.

Rocks & Bones, a glitchy single placing heavy emphasis on synth and melody; ‘Rocks and Bones’ is a treasure trove of lush production, polyrhythmic melodies and a massive beat that feels like it’s swinging from a pendulum. The lavish vocals of a dreamy new talent: Aquila Young breathe yet more life into the track.

Departure, from raw and sparse piano driven verses to massive earth shattering choruses, Departure is Crooked Jaws most cinematic and epic song. Wailing backing vocals scream through the mix as Broadwing’s rock-god esc vocals power the track onward.

Descend, Roaring distorted synths stand out in this ambient and almost experimental soundscape. Jeannine Peters unleashes soulful vocals in an almost improvisational style. This pre-wrap up to the album showcases a weird and wonderful side to Waza's production.

Floating, here the listener literally feels like they are floating as the final track of the LP carries them away. There is serenity to this song thats hard to ignore but it also manages to groove along brilliantly and showcase Waza's trademark production and synth skills.

Crooked Jaws eight tracks and two interludes span a massive array of genres and styles. Its hard to ignore the sonic barrage throughout the tracks, as they dip and dive from ambient to funk fuelled and, at times, truly epic. Here Waza takes the listener on a musical journey, a myriad of rotating guest singers and 1000s of sounds and samples make up the bed for a truly in depth record.
